Beaune - Les Cent Vignes 1985 L. Jadot

9/94. Acquired from Beaune Sep-93 for $28 (imported for $35 net).
One of the best Beaune 1er Cru from an excellent source. 1985 being a terrific vintage year.
We had this wine more than a year ago. It was wonderfully fruity and vibrant and thoroughly enjoyable. Today we took a bottle to an elegant restaurant in Tel-Aviv. The "Cent Vignes" accompanied the main course: Young lamb in port and thinly-sliced honey-coated breast of mullard.
COLOR: Palish red-brown, noticeable paling towards the rim.
NOSE: Almost no fruit, some earth, barnyard dominant.
TASTE: Still good, smooth, but lack depth.
LENGTH: Quite long but monotonous.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: A little flat.
Comparison with last bottle: Sic transit gloria mundis :-( Amazing how a single year can turn a truly excellent wine into a 'has been'. More and more I am forced to the conclusion that '85, great vintage as it has been, is rapidly falling apart. Would you believe me if I tell you we all (4) noticed its faults, yet were very sorry when the bottle got empty? It was a good wine, though probably past its prime.
MARK: 15/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? No.
