Hello and welcome to my tasting-notes pages. A few words about myself:
My name is Jacob (a.k.a Yak) Shaya. I was born, bred and live in Tel-Aviv,
Israel with my wife Dorit and our Gray African Parrot Fritzi. I am a
slave-partner in a software company where we try to develop the best OCR in the world.
Apart from working hard, I try to enjoy the good things in life as much as possible. My
non-professional interests range from serious bridge playing to bird watching to travel
and good food. But my most compulsive hobby is wine.
I was stung by the wine bug some twenty years ago, and have developed a special craving for
the juice they make in Bourgogne.
It is true that I am very partial to (B). I have visited Bourgogne many
times, have developed good relations with some of the best producers, tasted
quite broadly, and read almost everything there is to read about the subject.
Nevertheless, for the last few years I have been making a conscientious
effort to broaden my horizons into other wine regions such as Bordeaux and
the Rhone, at least for "Know thy enemy" purposes.
Living in Israel and
being so far and isolated from the wine centers of the world, forces me to
import my own wine from many sources around the globe (of which TCWC is an
important one), a task made easier in this cyberspace day and age.
I rarely taste wine, I drink it. Almost always in context - of food, mood and
company. I don't mind sharing my experience and enjoyment, just bear in mind
that a) I am not a professional wine taster, and b) I do not even aim at
objectivity!
All assessments and opinions are subjectively mine and mine
alone. I am an active member of the Compuserve Wine Forum, where most of the
tasting notes were posted to, and where I run a sort of a special-interest
club called the "(B) Club" [the "(B)" stands for Burgundy].
One more thing, the tasting notes have not been
edited. They probably contain many syntax and spelling mistakes. Please
remember that English is not my natural language.
Enjoy, - Yak Shaya
