Beaune - Close des Ursules 1989 L. Jadot
6/95. Acquired from Beaune May-94 for $26 (improrted for $38 net).
This charming wine from Jadot's monopole in the Beaune 1er Cru vineyard of
"Vignes Franches" accompanied the first part of the wine-dinner at our
wine-partner's home: Very concentrated mushroom soup and a cheese souffle.
COLOR: Deep violet (bordeaux < g >) color, quite unusual for (B).
NOSE: Charmingly forward red fruit and earth tones engulfed by delicate
'Bourgogne nose'.
TASTE: Very enjoyable. The forward fruitiness of the '89 vintage is clearly
discernable in this wine. Fruity it is, if not very complex. Not much in the
way of tannins, but well balanced 'wholesome' taste and aftertaste.
LENGTH: Comparatively short but very pleasant.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Delicate and perfumed. This is not a blockbuster wine, and
is not supposed to be one (though it says 13.6% alcohol on the label). Good
acidity, and very tender tannins add to the completeness of this wine.
OVERALL: An excellent example of what a good Beaune red should be. Now at or
around its peak and will not last too long. Very good value.
MARK: 17/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Maybe.
