Corton Charlemagne 1990 L. Latour

11/95. Acquired from Beaune Sep-93 for $53 (imported for $64 net).
Tonight with fresh mussels gratinâe in beurre-blanc and shrimp & salmon soup.
I have a soft spot for Latour Corton Charlemagne as this was the very first great wine I ever had more than 17 years ago. This present example was in every respect as good as the first love (of which I have nothing but impressionistic memories of course).
COLOR: Deep golden yellow. Very rich look.
NOSE: Fresh apples and pears, clean minerally aroma, honey and spices. Very enticing and excellent nose indeed.
TASTE: Fantastic! Mouth-filling with plenty of non-grape fruit. Refreshingly crisp and steely, yet rich and complex.
LENGTH: Very long, developing in the mouth long after the there is nothing in it.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Excellent balance between fruit, acidity and alcohol. No apparent wood. A 'wholesome' and chewy wine.
OVERALL: Superb+! Cannot ask for more in a Corton Charlemagne. IMHO this wine is at its peak right now, though it will certainly keep for many more years.
MARK: 18+/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
