Vosne - Les Beaux Monts 1988 Dom. Leroy

3/96. Bought in auction Jul-95 for $80 (imported from Chicago for $92 net).
One of the famous 1er Cru from the superstar Domaine Leroy. Only 550 cases were made of this wine by Leroy.
Tonight with the main course of oven-baked goose.
COLOR: Full vibrant red. Hardly any paling around the rim.
NOSE: Tons of fresh raspberries, engulfed by the most delicate 'Bourgogne Nose'. No earthy, undergrowth or leather tones. Straightforward fruity nose, without too much apparent wood.
TASTE: As fruity and as uncomplex as the nose. Pure joy on the palate, with pronounced acidity and receding tannins. Very concentrated but almost too sweet to accompany food.
LENGTH: Medium-long very pleasant aftertaste, accentuated by the fresh acidity.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium bodied, superb structure and flesh. A bit short on tannins for the amount of fruit and acidity. Tastes and feels young.
OVERALL: Superb wine now. Should become extraordinary in a few years when it gains some mature complexity. Only question is whether the weak tannins will support longevity.
MARK: 18/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
