CdP - Chateau de Beaucastel 1990 Perrin

10/96. Bought in England Mar-96 for $30.
I have no idea why this Chateauneuf du Pape costs less than half than its 1989 brother. I doubt that it is a lesser wine in any respect.
COLOR: A dense and as red as they come from the Rhone. Full color up to the rim.
NOSE: Formidable! A myriad of different aromas attack the nose simultaneously. Black-currents, raspberries, cherries, violets, exotic spices - you name it. Yet the effect is one of a harmonious bouquet that just pour out from the glass to fill the air.
TASTE: A bit tannic at first but opens up to reveal a multitude of flavors. Extremely tasty and multidimensional. Not an "intellectually" complex wine, but a sheer pleasure on the palate. The bottle was gone to the last unfiltered drops before we got to the desert...
LENGTH: Medium long and very pleasant aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: A hefty wine with tons of fruit, good acidity, enough tannins to give it a firm structure and above all, a lot of "winyness" to fill up the structure. Still a bit young with many years of drinking pleasure ahead.
OVERALL: Extraordinary wine that is a steal at this price. May very well reach even higher spheres in years to come.
MARK: 19/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
