Morey - Clos de la Bussiere 1990 G. Roumier
Acquired from Chrisophe Roumier at his domaine in Apr-96 for $22.
The first wine we open at our new home... This, mind you, is *NOT* the
official celebrating. For the last four days we were buried in packs, crates,
boxes etc. We haven't had a normal meal at home yet let alone wine, but
tonight when the carpenter came to settle the bill we decided to casually
open a good bottle and drink "Le'Chayim" with him for his excellent job.
This 1er Cru vineyard in Morey-St. Denis is a very well known monopole of the
Dom. Roumier.
COLOR: Very dark (comparatively) and impressive full red color. Hardly any
clearing towards the rim.
NOSE: Deep and enticing nose of red fruit dominated by cassis with hints of
cherry. Delicate 'Bourgogne Nose' hidden behind the typical but un-classic
1990 aroma. Nose alone is Grand Cru stuff...
TASTE: Mouth filling, multi-layered, extremely tasty, excellent fruit with
good acidity and some tannins that are still felt. Youngish, assertive
sweetness that is very different from mature old (B) plum-like sweetness.
Again, taste is very typical of the other 1990 (B) I've tasted. Great on the
palate, but not entirely Burgundy.
LENGTH: Excellent aftertaste that starts with the tannic finish and
reverberates with the various flavors and the freshness of the acidity.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: A sturdy wine with superb 'flesh' and structure. Fantastic
balance between all accentuated components.
OVERALL: A superb+ wine that should develop for many many years to come. If
you have a case - taste one by all means, but if you only have a couple (like
I did) - fight temptation and wait at least another two years.
MARK: 18+/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
