Yarden - Cabernet Sauvignon 1993 Golan Wineries
11/96. $17 as a current vintage (the moment a new vintage is released the
older ones are all marked up by 70%...).
First taste of the recently-released 1993 vintage of the flagship Israeli wine.
COLOR: Dark red as is always the case with Yarden Cab.
NOSE: Very dense blackcurrent fruit. Sweet aroma, almost too jammy aroma with
pronounced wood and vanilla bouquet.
TASTE: Young and tough with concentrated fruit bomb flavors, not unlike most
of the Cal Cabs I've tasted. Quite tannic though tannins are surprisingly
soft. Uncharacteristically drinkable at this early stage.
LENGTH: Medium aftertaste dominated by tannic dryness.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Dense, full bodied, concentrated. Could have more
structure for freshness. Heavy jammy fruit. A bit lacking in complexity.
OVERALL: Excellent now though no doubt will open up to better things in years
to come.
MARK: 17/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
