Barolo (Riserva) 1988 Bersano

4/97. Acquired in Rome Jan-97 for $30.
Not being too versed in Italian wines, I decided to open this 'simple' Barolo to accompany delicious meal of chicken-soup and spaghetti Bolognese.
COLOR: Brick-red, less dark then I'd thought it would be. Some clearing towards the rim.
NOSE: Plenty of young red fruit augmented by flowery scents. Little or no wood. Very pleasant if not particularly complex.
TASTE: Excellent 'winyness' on the palate. Good fruit, ample acidity and round but noticeable tannins. Very tasty.
LENGTH: Not particularly long aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Full-bodied, concentrated, well balanced and still youthful.
OVERALL: Excellent+! Perhaps not the greatest Barolo, but extremely pleasurable and affordable wine.
MARK: 17+/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
