Vosne - Les Suchots 1989 J. Drouhin

5/97. Acquired from Beaune June-94 for $23 (Imported for $31 net).
I first tasted this wine some two and a half years ago, a second bottle was opened a year later. On both occasions the wine was far from impressive. Looking at those old tasting notes I see I marked the wine 15/20 and 16/20.
Tonight with smoked trout and marinated spare ribs.
COLOR: Normal pinot color with noticeable clearance around the rim. Some sediment at the end of the bottle.
NOSE: Superb! Deep, rich and maturely fruity. Sweetish, tutti-fruity like aroma, engulfed by complex and enticing 'Bourgogne Nose'.
TASTE: Very good. Charming 1989 forward fruit, excellent harmony on the palate. Not especially complex but extremely tasty.
LENGTH: Surprisingly long and fresh aftertaste. Fruit, acidity and soft tannins make the finish especially pleasant.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium-weight, very well balanced wine. Fully mature, at its best now!
OVERALL: Excellent! Undoubtedly the best of the three bottles I've had of this wine. Moral - Judging (B) wines before they reach their maturity can be very misleading!
MARK: 17/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
