Clos de Vougeot 1985 J. Grivot

10/97. Present received Dec-97.
Jean Grivot is one of Vosne-Romanee better winemakers and one of the best sources for the often under-performing Clos de Vougeot. 1985 is still IMHO one of the best vintages of the well endowed 80s.
COLOR: Medium darkish red, some clearing towards the rim and noticeable amount of sediment.
NOSE: Excellent and concentrated. Mature red forest fruit, engulfed by a not-too-delicate 'Bourgogne Nose'. Pleasant enticing and complex nevertheless.
TASTE: Very tasty and far from one-dimensional. Good grip and structure serves as a backdrop to a mouthful of sweetish 'winyness'.
LENGTH: Medium long 'easy', tannins-less aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Full bodied, good structure, ample fruit, receding tannins - very good balance.
OVERALL: Excellent+ wine that has reached its peak.
MARK: 17+/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
