Beaune - Clos des Ursules 1990 L. Jadot
1/98. Acquired from Beaune June-94 for $28 (imported for $37 net).
This flagship wine of Jadot's Beaune vineyards accompanied the first part (onion &
cheese tart and leek soup) of Friday night dinner at our wine-partners friends.
COLOR: Deep dark violet-red, hardly any clearing around the rim.
NOSE: Opulent and extremely fruity. Has this in-your-face typical 1990 untypical-(B)
style. Lovely 'Bourgogne Nose', attractive and mellow earthy tones.
TASTE: Again, the 1990 opulence is evident on the palate too. Very pleasant fresh
and soft red fruit with just a touch of reserved power suggesting the wine is still
a few years away from being completely mature.
LENGTH: Medium long low-keyed aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium bodied. Fruit, acidity, alcohol and tannins are all there
in elegant proportions. Velvety and very well balanced.
OVERALL: Excellent! A prime example of a Beaune 1er Cru. May yet become even better
in a couple of years.
MARK: 17/20.aaaaaaaaBUY MORE? Yes.
