Chateau Palmer 1983 Margaux

9/99. Bought at auction, Jan-96 for $115.
Fifteen months have past since my last taste of this really fine Bordeaux.
Tonight we had it for Friday night dinner at home. Dinner consisted of four kinds of mushrooms in creme-fraìche, wok-fried stripes of beef fillet with noodles and Shitake mushrooms, ice-cream and fruits.
COLOR: Saturated dark red with different beautiful brownish hues. Pretty noticeable clearing around the rim. Some sediment.
NOSE: Ripe, forward and multi-dimensional. plummish fruity notes, together with elegant secondary aromas. Not young anymore, but nothing tired or dusty. Pure and harmonious nose. Exquisite!
TASTE: Sweetish concentrated fruit. Mature, winey, with great focus. Smooth and extremely elegant on the palate, yet with excellent grip. Good acidity and soft but ever-present tannins.
LENGTH: Medium-long aftertaste, just a touch of dryness.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Full bodied and thick-textured wine. Wonderfully balanced contribution of all the elements, from fruit and winyness to alcohol, wood, acidity and tannins.
OVERALL: Extraordinary!! A truly great Bordeaux at the height of its life. Will keep for many more years, but I don't see any reason to wait.
MARK: 19/20.BUY MORE? Yes.
