Michael - Shiraz |
1994 |
Wynns |
1/2000. Bought in London, May-99 for $48.
Never had this Australian (Coonawarra) wine before. Bought it on a strong recommendation from my trusted friends at Berry Bros.
The back label reveals that Wynns Estate is the oldest established winery in Coonawarra. And that this "Michael" Shiraz (as opposed to the regular Shiraz) is a limited edition wine that is only produced in the best years.
COLOR: Very nice deep and dark purple. No clearing around the rim. Quite a lot of sediment on the bottle's neck.
NOSE: Pure Syrah nose. Concentrated earthy and spicy. Toasted oak is felt but is not overbearing at all.
TASTE: Semi-ripe and complex fruit. Lots of extraction with plenty of acidity and tannins along with the sweet red fruit. Real class here with a lot of style and individuality. Focused, well-structured, and most of all - tasty.
LENGTH: Long lasting aftertaste that is both sweet on the lisps and bitter on the inner palate.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Full bodied wine with large proportions. Very concentrated, multi-dimensional, individual and very well made. Still young and vigorous but charming nevertheless.
OVERALL: Superb. Very interesting (and tasty!) wine. Will try my second bottle in a few years.
MARK: 18.5/20. | BUY MORE? Yes. |
