Rioja 'Reserva' |
1994 |
Campillo |
9/2000. Bought in Barcelona Sep-99, for $18.
A mid-week wine to accompany a fantastic beef stew dinner at home.
COLOR: Medium bright red color. Slightly paling towards the rim.
NOSE: Very nice, pretty forward and very 'Rioja' nose. Fruity (red & black berries) meaty aromas with pecan and lavender overtones.
TASTE: Pleasant non-trivial fruit flavors, reasonable winyness soft tannins and nice acidity - all combine to make this a very tasty and enjoyable wine.
LENGTH: Medium long aftertaste if a tiny bit tired at the finish.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Light bodied wine not lacking in character and charm. Excellent balance between the mature fruit, acidity and tannins. Smooth texture with no hard edges. Only medium concentration but a pleasure to drink.
OVERALL: Fine. A well made non-pretentious wine. Probably at its best now.
MARK: 17.5/20. | BUY MORE? Yes. |
