Pommard 'Les Epenots' |
1990 |
Dom. de Courcel |
9/00. Acquired from London, Feb-96 for $42.
A really good Pommard is (IMHO) a rarity. Most of the examples I've had in the past were rustic, tough and generally ungainly. This specific wine however is an exception. I have tasted a bottle some 18 months ago and was really impressed.
COLOR: Medium-lightish red, somewhat clearing towards the rim.
NOSE: A beautiful melange of clean fragrant aromas. Fresh red fruits, semi-mature black berries, excellent 'Bourgogne Nose' - all in a wonderful harmony and balance.
TASTE: Absolutely delicious! Smooth as silk, multi-flavored nectar. Winey, focused yet beautifully delicate. Fantastic fruit balanced with good acidity and soft, receding tannins. Simply wonderful.
LENGTH: Very very long and lively aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium bodied, stylish and elegant. The most beautiful balance play between grip, structure and backbone on one hand and the smooth texture harmony and delicacy on the other.
OVERALL: Superb (and I have to restrain myself not to give it a higher mark!). I cannot imagine a Pommard being better than this one. At its absolute best right now
