Ch. Lynch Bages 1989 Pauillac

3/01. Acquired at auction, Jan-97 for $87.
My contribution to a very nice Friday night dinner at our Friends Oded & Nitza.
I have had this wine about a year and a half ago and thought it to still be somewhat shy of its apex.
COLOR: Dark violet-red. Thin clearing around the rim with lots of sediment in the bottle.
NOSE: Absolutely marvelous. Rich, deep enticing nose where profound sweetish fruit and complex 'Bordeaux Nose' elements are intermingled. Very nicely evolved by now, with wonderful balance between primary and secondary aromas.
TASTE: Every bit as good as the nose! Mouthfilling with plenty of winyness and a luxurious combination of fresh and ripe fruit. Classy and elegant on the palate with not a hard edge to detract from its silky vigor. Mellow yet vibrant with good acidity and very soft tannins. Fantastic.
LENGTH: Very long aftertaste that is smooth and sweetish.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium-full bodied Bordeaux at its most luscious manifestation. Poised, focused yet completely yielding. Wonderfully balanced and at the prime of its drinking period. Will last [though I don't think for decades]. But why wait when it is so good now?
OVERALL: Extraordinary!! One of the [not so many] best Bordeaux wines I ever had.
MARK: 19.5/20.BUY MORE? Yes.
