Barolo - Cannubi |
1995 |
P. Scavino |
3/02. Acquired from New York, Mar-99 for $63.
Yet another 1995 Barolo. The third I try in the last few weeks.
Unfortunately, the previous two were quite disappointing. So no high hopes here.
COLOR: Medium dark ruby. Some clearing around the rim. Lot of sediment.
NOSE: Elegant nose of deep dark fruit, piquant spices and wet forest floor. Wood is noticeable but does not overshadow the natural aroma. Very pleasant.
TASTE: Easy (in Barolo terms) on the palate. Complex fruit harmonized with earthy elements. Good winyness, fine acidity and very round tannins. A chewy wine that is really tasty.
LENGTH: Medium-long vibrating aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Full bodied, well focused elegant wine. Extremely well balanced. Can be enjoyed now but will keep.
OVERALL: Very Fine at least. Refreshing to finally come upon a 1995 Barolo that lives up to the promise of that highly-touted-at-the-time vintage.
MARK: 18/20. | BUY MORE? Yes. |
