Ch. Lafite Rothschild 1978 Pauillac

12/02. Bought at auction Sep-95 for $100 (current market price about $150).
I have had this wine more than six years ago. I remember I was a bit disappointed at the time, expecting more from such a great name.
COLOR: Garnet red with some brownish hues. Noticeable clearing towards the rim and a good deal of sediment.
NOSE: Fragrant nose of classic Bordeaux elements. Not immensely concentrated but enticing with good black fruit and a fine blend of primary secondary and tertiary aromas.
TASTE: Extremely elegant on the palate. Delicate yet supple and expressive. Breed and class is apparent here in spite of the fact the wine is far from being a blockbuster. Completely mature and harmonious. Very tasty.
LENGTH: Very very long and reverberating aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium-light bodied wine. Elegance and class rules here rather than concentration and depth. Superbly balanced with soft fruit, round receding tannins and correct acidity.
OVERALL: Superb. Obviously improved during the last six years. Still, a bit more concentration and punch wouldn't hurt here.
MARK: 18.5/20.BUY MORE? Yes.
