Montesodi (Chianti) |
1985 |
Frescobaldi |
6/03. Bought for $50.
I must admit I had serious doubts about opening a 18 years-old Chianti. My (limited) past experience with over 5-7 years-old Chiantis had not been all that exciting.
COLOR: Medium-light ruby red. Noticeable clearing around the rim.
NOSE: Clearly definable fruit, in spite of its age. A touch of wood notes and just a hint of maderization that add to the complexity. Captivating nose.
TASTE: Mouthfilling and totally harmonious on the palate. Ripe fruit flavors intermingle with mature, more complex ones. Deep, reasonably concentrated and very tasty.
LENGTH: Medium-long and very pleasant aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium-full body. Surprisingly vigorous for its age. Harmonious and very well balanced.
OVERALL: Superb. A very tasty, interesting and educative experience.
MARK: 18.5/20. | BUY MORE? Yes. |
