Barbaresco 1997 Gaja

10/2004. Bought in England, Aug-01 for $97.
The "generic" (i.e non single-vineyard) Barbaresco made by superstar Angelo Gaja from the wonderful 1997 vintage.
COLOR: Medium-deep ruby color. Very slight clearing around the rim.
NOSE: Fragrant lovely nose laden with red fruit aromas and soft wood notes. Very nice [if not bombastic] and promising nose.
TASTE: Vibrant and tasty on the palate. Complex and elegant with well defined focused winyness. Not an immense wine but well structured with good acidity and round tannins.
LENGTH: Medium long and reverberating aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Full bodied well crafted Nebbiolo. Lacks the huge concentration of the single vineyards but very tasty and very well balanced.
OVERALL: Very Fine. You would expect nothing less from Gaja. Drinks very well now and will keep for many more years.
MARK: 18/20.BUY MORE? Yes.
