Brunello di Montalcino 1998 Piccolomini

12/04. Bought locally Jan-04 for $55.
My first bottle from Ciacci Piccolomini, a rising winemaker star of Brunello. The wine is aged for three years in large Slavonian barrels and for few more months in bottle before its release.
COLOR: Deep dark red, no clearing towards the rim.
NOSE: Elegant enticing red and black forest fruit. Floral aromas with some earth and tar. No oak tones. Lovely nose.
TASTE: Mouthfilling sweetish flavors with smooth tannins and excellent acidity. Concentrated, focused with plenty of winyness. Simply delicious.
LENGTH: Very long and pleasant aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium bodied (in spite of its 14% alcohol!) and perfectly balanced wine. Fruit, alcohol, tannins and acidity all abound. Yet this wine manages to retain its "lightness" and express its delicacy in every sip.
OVERALL: Superb! Extremely enjoyable now and for the coming 5 years or so.
MARK: 18.5/20.BUY MORE? Yes.
