Finca Dofi 1998 A. Palacios

5/05. Bought in England, Aug-01 for $55.
Made by Priorat's superstar Alvaro Palacios, Finca Dofi is a blend of Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and some other grapes.
COLOR: Medium purple-red with noticeable clearing around the rim.
NOSE: Unmistakably "Spanish" nose without the familiar 'dusty' Tempranillo touch [well, no Tempranillo here...]. Deep, penetrating black fruit and cassis aromas. Tar, chocolate and vanilla too. Impressive but in a poised, respecting and non-flamboyant manner.
TASTE: Rich and concentrated on the palate. Round tannins, intense fruit and good acidity. A fine wine to sip.
LENGTH: Long echoing aftertaste.
TEXTURE & BALANCE: Medium-full body. Velvet texture. Forward yet not completely yielding. Well balanced with years of development ahead.
OVERALL: Superb. A brooding wine that is complex, winey and pure. Impressive more than it is expressive.
MARK: 18.5/20.BUY MORE? Yes.
