Suterday Light Lunch at Gidleigh Park

Following the extensive Clos-St. Hune tasting we were served a light (yet extremely tasty) lunch. The wines were, admittedly, wines I would probably never buy for myself. Lowly, pedigreeless wines like 'Macon', 'Grand Ordinaire' and 'Bourgogne'. But wait a moment! Look at the producers - Comtes Lafon, Aubert de Villaine and Coche-Dury. Hmmm... can these guys really produce bad wines? Lets taste and see...

Salad of scallops and potatoes with truffle vinaigrette
1999 Macon Milly, Les Heritiers du Comtes Lafon
1999 Bourgogne 'Les Clous', Aubert de Villaine
______
Roast breast of guinea fowl with baby vegetables
1999 Grand Ordinaire, Coche-Dury
1999 Bourgogne 'La Digoine', Aubert de Villaine

Macon Milly 1999, Les Heritiers du Comtes Lafon - Fullish nose. Reasonably concentrated and structured. A bit heavy though.
Good-plus. MARK 16.5/20.
Bourgogne White 'Les Clous' 1999, Aubert de Villaine - Pleasant floral nose with white fruit tones. Well focused with nice fruity flavors.
Very Good. MARK 17/20.

Grand Ordinaire 1999, Coche-Dury - Red fruit with a hint of 'Bourgogne Nose'. Nice, simple and a bit too acidic on the palate.
Good. MARK 16/20.
Bourgogne Red 'La Digoine' 1999, Aubert de Villaine - Deep interesting nose of black fruits. Complex fruity flavors, very tasty and really well balanced.
Fine. MARK 17.5/20.
