Autumn in Tuscany
October-2000
The beginning of October 2000 saw us spending eight days in Italy. Six days in beautiful Toscana (Tuscany) and a couple of days in Rome.
We traveled, dined and wined with our good friends Eli and Gilli. Needless to say we ate well, drank well, and have enjoyed this vacation tremendously...
In Toscana we stayed at the Fonte de Medici, a newly converted 600 years-old villa on the Marchese Antinori estate, somewhere between Florence and Siena.
Our villa bordered and overlooked the famous Tignanello and Solaia vineyards, and we had a 360 degrees open view of the most beautiful Tuscan country side.
We have visited the winemaking facilities of the Marchese Niccolo Incisa della Rocchetta at San Guido (Sassicaia), and those of the Marchese Antinori at Santa Cristina and Badia a Passignano.
We had some fantastic dining experiences, drank some excellent Italian wines, and generally had a great time relaxing and enjoying the Tuscan life-style.
We ended our trip with two days in beautiful Rome. We stayed at the exuberantly expensive Hotel Eden. An old-fashioned hotel at the foot of the Villa Borghese. A good hotel no doubt, but not more so than hundreds of other hotels in the world. I would have considered it too expensive even at half the rate we paid - US$520 a day after discount!
In the following pages I'll try to share with you (in pictures and text) this utmost Tuscan experience...
